1. Purpose
Based on the fundamental principle that the Benesse Corporation Group will contribute to society and enhance corporate value by complying with tax-related laws and regulations in each country and region and fulfilling its tax obligations appropriately as a public institution, the Benesse Corporation Group establishes the Benesse Corporation Group Tax Basic Policy (hereinafter, "Tax Basic Policy").
2. Basic guidelines
(1) Thorough tax compliance
As a global company, the Benesse Corporation Group will ensure strict compliance with tax laws and regulations in each country and region in conducting its business activities, and will fulfill its appropriate tax obligations.
(2) Building and maintaining a relationship of trust with tax authorities
The Benesse Corporation Group strives to build and maintain a relationship of trust with tax authorities through the timely provision of appropriate tax information and honest responses during advance inquiries and tax audits.
(3) Optimization of tax expenses
Based on the above (1) and (2), the Benesse Corporation Group will strive to maintain and improve corporate value by working to optimize tax expenses through measures such as eliminating double taxation and applying preferential tax treatment that is in line with the purpose of the system.
3. System for implementing the basic guidelines
- (1) The Benesse Corporation Group will establish and operate a group-wide tax governance system to ensure that each group company practices proper tax filing and payment in accordance with this policy.
- (2) The Benesse Corporation Group shall establish the Benesse Corporation Group Tax Governance Regulations and appoint a Group Tax Officer in order to develop and operate its tax governance.
4. Revision or repeal of this policy
Any revision or abolition of this policy shall be drafted by the Group's Chief Tax Officer and approved by a resolution of the Board of Directors.
Supplementary Provisions
This policy will come into effect on April 1, 2018.
