  • Science Based Targets (SBT)

    Science-Based Targets

    This initiative is advocated by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), and the World Resources Institute. It recognizes companies that have set reduction targets consistent with scientific knowledge in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of "keeping the global average temperature rise well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and limiting it to below 1.5°C." In 2021, the company raised its Scope 1 and 2 targets to a "1.5°C target" and was recertified as a SBT Initiative.

  • Certified Health and Productivity Management Outstanding Organization

    Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Category: Excellent Health Management Company 2023

    This is a system jointly implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Health Council to recognize corporations that are particularly outstanding in practicing health management, based on initiatives tailored to local health challenges and health promotion initiatives promoted by the Japan Health Council. Within our group, Benesse Business Mate, Benesse B-Studio, and Benesse Basecom have been certified in the small and medium-sized enterprise category.

  • Japan HR Awards "Innovation Award"

    Japan HR Challenge Awards 2022 Innovation Award

    This award recognizes companies that are proactively undertaking outstanding new initiatives in the field of human resources. Organized by the "Japan HR Challenge Award" Executive Committee, and supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation (SMRJ), Toyo Keizai Inc., Business Publishing, and HR Research Institute (ProFuture), the award recognizes companies whose management and HR departments are proactively taking on challenges in the field of human resources, recognizing the need for companies' human resources departments to respond quickly and proactively to the rapidly changing social and economic environment.
    Benesse Business Mate was awarded the "Innovation Award" in June 2022 in recognition of its innovative approach to building and operating a system that enables instructors and team leaders for people with disabilities to continuously improve their skills, utilize those skills in the field, and find fulfillment in their work.

  • Monis Certified

    Certification for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses to Employ People with Disabilities

    This system allows the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare to certify small and medium-sized enterprises that demonstrate excellent performance in promoting and stabilizing the employment of people with disabilities. Benesse Business Mate was certified in November 2021 in recognition of its efforts in developing job opportunities and reforming operations to expand employment for people with disabilities, creating a comfortable working environment and culture, implementing systems that motivate employees, and supporting each individual employee.

  • Product Safety Excellence Award (PS Award)

    Product Safety Measures Excellence Award

    Manufacturers, importers, retailers, and various organizations that are actively working to ensure product safety are widely solicited on a company-by-company basis, and after a rigorous review, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry recognizes them as "Excellent Companies for Product Safety Measures."
    Benesse Corporation received the "Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award" in the Large Retail Business Category of the "Product Safety Measures Excellence Awards for Fiscal Year 2021 (PS Awards 2021)".

Third-party certification for management systems

  • ISMS Certification

    The Japan Information Processing Development Center (JIPDEC) has established an evaluation system (ISMS conformity assessment system). Designated certification bodies assess a company's information security management system and evaluate whether it complies with the "ISMS certification standards" equivalent to international standards, and then certify it.
    Following the acquisition of ISO27001 (ISMS) certification by Benesse Corporation School Headquarters and Benesse Basecom in May 2015, Benesse Holdings (at the time) and Benesse Corporation (excluding some locations) completed the acquisition in March 2016.

  • Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)

    Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)

    This is an international standard for environmental management systems. It outlines an organizational framework for protecting the environment and responding to changing environmental conditions while balancing socioeconomic needs. Benesse Corporation has held this certification since 2004 and renewed it in 2025.
    Furthermore, our CO2 emission figures are verified by a third party, Socotec Certification Japan Co., Ltd. Since 2022, in addition to GHG emissions, energy consumption, water consumption, and waste generation have also been included in the verification process.

  • Privacy Mark

    Privacy Mark

    This system evaluates businesses that have established a system to take appropriate protective measures for personal information in accordance with the Japanese Industrial Standard "JIS Q 15001 Personal Information Protection Management System - Requirements," and grants them a Privacy Mark to indicate this, authorizing them to use the Privacy Mark in their business activities.
    We underwent an assessment by the Japan Information Technology and Economic Society Promotion Association (JIPDEC) and were registered as a Privacy Mark certified company in November 2016.
