Environmental policy
Environmental issues are a critical global challenge, and we believe that actively promoting environmental activities is a corporate responsibility. In order to realize our corporate philosophy of "Benesse = Well-Being," we position "the environment" as one of our key management priorities and will actively promote it in line with the characteristics of our business, which is centered on education.
In carrying out our activities, we will comply with environmental laws and regulations, and strive for continuous improvement of our environmental management system and environmental performance. We will also implement the following measures, with the aim of encouraging each individual engaged in our business to take initiative.
- (1) Promoting climate change countermeasures, biodiversity restoration, and environmental considerations in products, services, and sales activities.
To provide safe and environmentally friendly products and services, as well as sales tools, we will promote digital transformation, implement climate change measures such as resource conservation to reduce GHG emissions, promote resource circulation through recycling aimed at restoring biodiversity, avoid the use of harmful substances, and promote environmentally conscious design through efficient resource utilization and water resource conservation and efficient water use. - (2) To combat climate change and restore biodiversity, we promote resource circulation through energy conservation, renewable energy, waste reduction, and recycling, as well as improve the efficiency of resource use and conserve and optimize water resources.
In our business activities, we strive to prevent environmental pollution and reduce environmental impact by implementing climate change countermeasures such as energy conservation, introduction of renewable energy, reduction of GHG emissions through waste reduction, promotion of resource circulation through recycling aimed at restoring biodiversity, non-use of hazardous substances, efficient use of resources, and conservation and efficient use of water resources. - (3) Promoting environmental education that leverages the characteristics of the business
Aiming to realize a society that achieves carbon neutrality and nature positivity by 2050, we will actively promote environmental education and human resource development that leverages the unique characteristics of our business. - (4) Engaging with local communities and society through collaboration with stakeholders
We will work with various stakeholders to address environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity restoration, resource recycling, the non-use of hazardous substances, efficient resource utilization, water resource conservation and efficient water use, and community activities.
This environmental policy will be communicated to all employees and everyone involved in our business activities, and will also be disclosed externally.

Promotion system
We are promoting sustainability and ESG initiatives, including climate change, through the following structure.
At Benesse Corporation, each business unit has an environmental officer who develops annual plans tailored to the customer and business stage, working to reduce environmental impact, including GHG emissions, and promote environmental education.
Environmental audit
Benesse conducts audits by certification bodies and annual internal audits in accordance with ISO 14001. The internal audits are conducted with the aim of improving the environmental management system since the previous audit (Audit subject for FY2025: Benesse Corporation).
The certification body's audit found no major non-conformities, but identified four areas for improvement.

ISO 14001 certified
We obtained ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems, in 2004. Based on our environmental policy and activity guidelines, we strive to deliver environmentally friendly products and services in our business activities and to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. We also promote environmental education and aim to increase the number of people who understand environmental issues and can take environmentally conscious actions.
